Dashboard glitch in Chrome

Google Chrome display glitch

Google Chrome display glitch

There is bug in Chrome version 45 which can cause display problems in the WordPress dashboard. Typically dashboard menu items appear superimposed on one-another or not at all.

Until Google fix this the workaround is to go to chrome://flags/#disable-slimming-paint and Enable the Disable Slimming Paint item.

This issue doesn’t affect other browsers.

I would advise using FireFox until this and other issues such as the invisible code in Text view glitch are fixed.

Falkland Centre for Stewardship relaunch

Falkland Centre for Stewardship websiteFive years after we designed their original website staff at the Centre for Stewardship at Falkland invited Red E to design a fresh, new site able to be maintained by Centre staff cheaply and easily and designed to comply with the latest standards for mobile compatibility.

The new site launched on 16 July 2015. We think it is great example of how to deliver a cheap, effective design that’s fully responsive and easily maintained. It was actually cheaper than the first site.

There’s an interesting Open Country feature on the work of the Centre for Stewardship.

Red E has visited this beautiful estate, the converted stables, the Pillars of Hercules café and the village of Falkland many times. We’ve bought organic food, enjoyed the Big Tent Festival and walked the grounds.

Different members of staff look after different parts of the site. Red E replaced the well used but dated Contribute system on the centre’s own server with a new WordPress based CMS and delivered onsite training to staff.

The new website is optimised for mobile devices which is an advantage for visitors to the estate. The new system moves most SEO tasks in-house to save money and improve Google rankings.

The redevelopment cost less than the original site and dispensed with the need for costly CMS software.

Physical Health Personal Training

Mock-up of PHPT website on multiple screensPhysical Health Personal Training already had a WordPress website from another developer but it had become corrupted and the installation could not be updated.

Red E worked with PHPT over a few hour-long consultation sessions to get the site back up and running with a fresh, new theme, security and back-up plug-ins and an updated installation of WordPress. A booking system was integrated and training provided so that updates and site edits could be done by PHPT.

New photography helped to lift the site’s look and feel. Marketing advice helped to focus the purpose of the site’s content. The new improved PHPT site conveys a lively and positive impression.

Time to redevelop the site: 6 hours.

Service Contracts from RED E

A service contract gives you office hours support for your online activities. These can include your website, newsletters, social media feeds, SEO and retail systems.

A service contract can also ensure that regular tasks are done on time. These might include database exports/imports, analytics reviews, planning meetings and staff training.

Having a service contract from Red E is like having an on-site ICT expert at a fraction of the cost. Contracts start at £120 per month for a nominal four hour support package. This could comprise, for example, around 16 contacts by telephone or e-mail with minor follow up work. Contact details can be given to as many staff as you like and unused time carried forward.

Red E recommends BaseCamp for project management and a BaseCamp project management site is included in each contract. You can use BaseCamp to assign tasks to Red E and even collaborate within your own team on other work.

Please call for more details.
